IZZY YOUNG: GODFATHER OF FOLK coming to NYC

I'm happy to announce that FINALLY, I will have the opportunity to talk one-on-one with Izzy Young about the very early days of music being introduced at Gerde's. It was his idea in the first place. It was billed as "The Fifth Peg' at Gerde's for 5 months...before the arrangement went south. Mike Porco took the idea and kept music at his cabaret for the next 20 years calling it Folk City. But without Israel Young, no Folk City.

The first performers at the Fifth Peg hired by Izzy were Ed McCurdy, Brother John Sellers, Tommy Makem, Charlotte Daniels, Liam Clancy, Sonny Terry, Brownie McGhee, Robin Roberts, Dick Weissman and Cynthia Gooding.

Israel Young has lived in Stockholm since 1973 doing exactly what he was doing on Macdougal Street: Championing the magic of Folk music.

I pick Izzy up tomorrow! He's the first to go on camera for the documentary on Gerde's Folk City. Stay tuned for more.....
